Three Month Thursday

So I didn't take a picture this week. I put everything away and then realized I didn't take a picture, but by that point I didn't want to get everything back out. I bought a 36 pack of TP and put 12 of the rolls in my 3 month supply. I also put in 3 boxes of cereal.

Also my mom is canning some chocolates for me. :) I don't know the exact process, but I will have canning jars full of clearance valentines candy after tonight. We also tried some raisins. It's sort of our experiment to see if these type of foods will still be good after 6 months, 1 year, and more. I will let you know. My mom has even seen how to bottle butter, meats, and even eggs. (I don't know if I trust that one.) We will try out all these and let you know. Amber said her sister bottles meat and it's good. Worth a shot when it's the end of the world.

Anyway, I hope all two of my readers are getting their food storage in order. I am going to take a picture and inventory of my 3 month supply to let you know how far I have come these last few months. My best estimate is that I have a 6-8 week supply. I really need to get more meats and proteins. Anyway get storing!!!

Children Chatter

I had to change the headline on from "Collin Chatter" since I now have two kids who are talking.

One of the things that Collin says all the time that just cracks me up is:
"Mom! Can you get Brody to stop coffeeing (copying) me." He says this nearly every day. I don't correct him very often. He will figure it out. :)

Brody has been talking a lot now too. Collin still talks for him some, but Brody is really taking off with his speech. Some of the words he says are pronounced backwards. For instance, he pronounces Collin as Noll. Collin doesn't mind if Brody says it, but we can not call him Noll. Collin has always been very proud of his name.
One of my favorite words that Brody pronounces backward is "sip". Think about it. :) "Piss please Mom." LOL!
Also another speech thing Brody is doing is only pronouncing part of compound words such as only saying sweat for sweatshirt or ball for football. Or like this morning when he wanted his football sweatshirt - sweat ball. LOL!

The kids just keep them coming every day. There needs to be a little comic relief or I would go completely crazy. :)

Three Month Thursday

So here we are at another Thursday where I didn't go shopping. Kind of a busy day today. I was actually going to go shopping tonight with my mom. We are trying to start doing the coupon clipping thing. It's not in full swing yet, but we are trying to do it together. Brody skipped his nap today though (yes, I have been making him nap everyday for the last couple weeks! Yay for mean moms!) so he was a wreck and we just didn't go. So tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. :) I do have a shopping list though so that's a start.
Does anybody else do the coupon thing? I know that it works for some people, and I think that it will help boost my food storage, but it's a little complicated. If anyone has any great advice send it my way. Suzanne, I know you did it before. How did you like it?
ANYWAY my Food Storage Contest seems to be a bust. Only a handful of people have said they wanted to do it and so far I have only seen any action from Amber and her Wheat Pancakes. (Sounds like an act at the circus.) So if no one else sends me anything by the end of the month, which is only a week away, then Amber wins by default. I guess I will give myself some extra milk too.
I guess all I can say is: Buy something for your three month supply today. Also I always love tips, comments, recipes, etc.

Fall Behind Friday

That's the new post instead of Three Month Thursday. :) I didn't go shopping until today so here we are a day late, again. I just bought a few things this week to go along with some of our pasta. I know my kids will eat pasta with spaghetti sauce so that is what I bought, yet again, this week. Also I was out of ketchup so I bought a ketchup and mustard for both my fridge and one each for my storage.

Also I am here to guilt trip everyone into entering my GIVEAWAY! I have had only a couple of people tell me that they are doing it! Come on people! Pass it along to friends and family who are hopelessly lost (like me) and they want to get going with their food storage, but don't know where to start. We are halfway into the month. There is still plenty of time to enter. Make the time this week to do one of the 5 possible entries. It will only take a few minutes of your time. I want to see the entries start coming in, one at a time is just fine! Do what you can. That's why I set up the giveaway like I did. You can just pick one thing to work on and you have an entry or two. Don't delay! Get entered and get moving with your food storage. If I can do it on a tiny budget then so can you!!!!

Chopped Locks!

For most of you a haircut is just a haircut. You do it on a regular basis and it's not big deal. For me, I have just taken the lazy way out and had long hair for as long as I can remember. I have cut several inches off every so often, but today I went for the big one! Very short for me, but I was so ready. My hair has been getting more and more wavy as I get older and especially after my last pregnancy. I have been sick of using the flat iron for a half hour if I wanted my hair to look nice. I would just skip it and have crazy hair. Anyway, I would like to introduce the new and improved hot mama, Angelica:

Darrell suggested I do a before and after photo, but I think you all know what I looked like before. I have had the same long hair for 10 years or more!

Hey Mom! Look at us we are.....

CHILLAXING! Yes, that is what Collin said to me. BreAnn, I blame you. LOL! The boys were being so cute and snuggling together. They really do love each other, except when they don't. :) And yes, Collin is making those faces on purpose. The kid can't be serious to save his life.

And on another note, here is Collin sleeping in my bed. He sleeps with me when Darrell is out of town. He goes to bed at 8pm and I came in around 10 or 11 and this is what I found. He is a crazy sleeper, but not usually this crazy!!

My boys are growing up too fast....

I was just checking out my older pictures of the boys. I can't believe Collin is going to be 5 in two months! Blows my mind. Here are a few cute pics. I love my babies! :)

Here is Collin all dressed up. So cute! He is 3 years old in this pic. He almost has completely lost the toddler chubby cheeks and I miss it a little.

Aw...so sweet! Two boys are just the best!!

Saddest little boy in the whole world! I think when the kids make this face it's just so funny..then I laugh...then they cry more.

Seriously, it is a miracle that Brody survived this far.

Three Month Thursday

So I am taking myself up on my own challenge. I am working on my water storage this week. We have a fancy storage shed on the deck of our apartment. Perfect for water storage! There was a deal at the grocery store this week: Buy 10 3 liter waters for $10 and get a 24 pack of bottled water. I did this twice! So now I have 20 3 liter water jugs! Plus the bottled water that we use more on a regular basis. My gallon of milk was 3.78 liters so they are roughly 3/4 of a gallon. I really like the jugs though because they are more heavy duty so I will be able to keep them a long time and they store well. Also if you notice in my picture I have 9 3 gallon jugs. Darrell got these from his work over a year ago. One of the companies on his job site would buy these for their drinking water every day. Darrell collected them and he was so proud of his find! We got them cleaned up and sanitized about a month ago so we could fill them and store them. I REALLY like the 3 gallon size because they are manageable for me. The 5 gallon jugs are just too heavy. (Not that I am moving them around all the time! LOL!)
So if you are doing the challenge feel free to copy any of my mediocre ideas! :) I just want to get out the cattle prod and make all ya'll commit to my challenge! It's not that hard and once you get into it you realize it's not overwhelming and it's surprisingly fun. So this week add to your 3 month supply or get some water storage. Also I read Amber's blog with her wheat recipe. I will be trying this in the near future. Thanks for your support! I look forward to more entries!!!

Food Storage Giveaway Contest!!

Ok, as promised, here is my Food Storage Contest. This is a great way to get a fire burning under ya'll that like to read my blog, but can't quite get started with their 3 month supply. As most of you know I have been working really hard the last couple months to get my 3 month supply of food. I started at zero, nada, nothing and now I have food filling 2 shelves. I estimate it is about a one month supply, maybe a little more. I have done this little by little, week by week, and you can too!

The contest is simple you can do as little or as much as you want. It's like getting raffle tickets for every thing you do.

1. Assess your food storage. If you are like me I had zero so that was easy. Make a menu for your three month supply. It can be 7 day, 14 day, 30 day, or whatever works for you. Most people make a 2 week menu. Multiply it to make the 3 month supply and figure out how much food you will need. Don't go buy the food! Just make menus and figure how much you will need.

2. Plan a spot specifically for your food storage, both 3 month and long term supplies, as well as water supply. This can be ANYWHERE! I have a 2 bedroom apartment and I am making it work. No excuses!

3. Make something using wheat. Share your recipe.

4. Figure out how much water you need/would like to store. Figure out where you will store it.

5. Plan a way to add to your 3 month supply. This will vary for everyone. It can be a can a week, $5 per shopping trip, a monthly lump sum, case lot sale stock up, or whatever. This is personal so make it work for you. Don't make it overwhelming.

You get one entry per item you do and one extra entry for sending me a picture of each item you do. (Yes, I want pics of your lists and recipes!) Get creative. You can do as much or as little as you want, but as an extra incentive I am giving you 2 bonus entries if you do all 5 with pictures! A total of 12 entries.

***BONUS*** I will give you 2 bonus entries for every person you refer! Email your friends or post a link on your blog. This is a fun way to get your friends and family jump started with their food storage!

***BONUS*** Also I will give you 2 bonus entries for setting aside money from your tax return specifically for food storage. Some people I have heard are setting aside 10%. I am going to do about $100 for my long term storage.

So yeah, that's a lot of information, I know. This gives you a lot of options to do as much or as little as you would like. Get your friends on the bandwagon and make it fun! It's like a raffle and each entry is another ticket towards a chance to win the prize. What is the prize, you ask? (Of course it's more food storage!!)

For the first name drawn out of the hat (yes, it will literally be a hat. Gotta get the kids involved.) I will give 1 case - 12-1 quart boxes of milk. You can pick 1%, 2%, whole milk, or chocolate milk.
Second name drawn out will receive 4 - 1 quart boxes of milk, your choice.
Third name drawn out will receive 6 boxes of the 8 oz chocolate milk.

I will also give the person with the most referrals a bonus of 2 - 1 quart boxes of milk, your choice.
The shelf life of this milk is about a year. My kids LOVE the chocolate milk and if they knew I had some stored in the house it would be gone. I would recommend putting it in the fridge before you drink it, but it's just a preference. Cold milk, warm milk, you decide, but you can drink it right off the shelf.
I will mail these prizes anywhere in the country so don't think you can't enter if you don't live by me. The real prize will be that you are on your way to have a full 3 month and then one year supply of food!
The contest ends February 28th!! Email me your submissions and photos and I will post them all together on March 1st. angelicagrannis@hotmail.com Good luck everyone!
